  HISTORY OF REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology dates as far back as 5000 years ago in areas of the world such as ancient China, India, and Egypt. The practice of Reflexology is depicted on an ancient Egyptian tomb from 2350 BC. Thailand, Europe and the native people of North American later developed Reflexology styles.

In the early 1900’s Dr. William Fitzgerald, commonly held as the founder of zone therapy, brought Reflexology to the west. He divided the body into zones and found that exerting pressure on specific parts of the body would affect other parts of the body. Eunice Ingham, known as the mother of Reflexology, charted the feet and created a map of the entire body on them.

In the 1980’s Inge Dogans of South Africa combined the ancient science of the Chinese meridian system and modern day Reflexology, showing energy channels linking the feet and hands to other organs and body parts. Meridian theory assumes that a disorder within meridians generates congestion in the pathway and creates disharmony along that meridian and connecting organ. For added insight during Reflexology sessions, a basic knowledge of meridians is helpful.

"I know that after each session I will be able to walk straight again. My feet won’t hurt. I’ve said it before, what Lorna does is God’s gift to mankind. It is important." – A.R.
